β-carotene exists naturally in many green plants and accounts for the yellow to orange colour of many different fruits and vegetables. Recent researches have shown that β-carotene exerts a positive effect on the fertility process of cattle, breeding mares and sows. It is believed that β-carotene can enhance the resistance against infectious diseases in young rearing animals.
β-carotene deficiency symptoms
If the animals are keeping indoors and feeding low β-carotene feeds. The following symptoms may occur: • retarded ovulation • silent oestrus • lack of fertility • embryonic death • early abortion • lower resistance against infectious diseases
